SHERIFF SAYS ALCOHOL AND FAMILY DISPUTE WAS LIKELY MIX IN THE HOMICIDE CASE

ARRESTED FOR MURDER: JOHN D. TRIMBLE, 64, OF LITTLE MUD LICK ROAD, IN JOHNSON COUNTY, KENTUCKY.

Law enforcement investigators say one person is dead and a man is in custody after a shooting in the Little Mud Lick Road community in the Staffordsville area in central Johnson County on Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff Doug Saylor said the incident was reported around 3:15 p.m., Thursday afternoon, December 10, just over a mile north of Paintsville.

John D. Trimble, 64, of Staffordsville, was arrested by deputy Chadwick Penix of the Johnson County Sheriff Department, and was charged with murder. Trimble was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.

Sheriff Saylor said alcohol and “a possible family dispute” are suspected in the deadly incident.

The Johnson County Sheriff Department shared the update on social media. The shooting happened a little after 3 P.M., at a home on Salyers Hill, on Little Mud Lick Road, in Staffordsville.

When deputies arrived, they found Randy Salyer, 59, of Staffordsville inside, killed by a gunshot wound to the chest.

Here is the official statement from Johnson County Sheriff Doug Salyors, within the last hour:

“…On Thursday, December 10, 2020, at approximately 3:18 p.m. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 378 Salyers Hill, Staffordsville Kentucky concerning a shooting at that address.
Johnson County S.O. arrived and found Randy Salyer deceased inside the residence of John Trimble. Mr. Salyer had an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that John D. Trouble had shot Mr. Salyer during an argument inside the residence. Mr. Trimble was arrested by Deputy Chad Penix and charged with murder. Mr. Trimble was transported to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center pending court appearance.

Responding was several Johnson County Deputies along with Paintsville EMS, W.R. Castle Fire and Rescue, and Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby. The case is still under investigation by Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.”
