A Johnson County woman, who was already in jail after being arrested on numerous criminal charges last month in a neighboring county, has now been slapped with an even more severe criminal indictment by a Johnson Co. grand jury on a murder charge involving the death of her newborn infant minutes after she gave birth to the baby at her home in October 2016.
According to local media reports, Amanda Meade, 34 of West Van Lear, in Johnson County, is accused of having “wantonly with extreme indifference to the value of human life, caused the death of her baby, infant Meade, a minor child, as a result of severing the newborn’s umbilical cord with scissors following the infant’s birth at Meade’s home.”
On October 20th, the Johnson County Grand Jury returned a true bill alleging that on or before Oct 15, 2016, Amanda Meade wantonly caused the death of her newborn child.
According to Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Anthony Skeans, a warrant based on the indictment was issued for Amanda Meade’s arrest.
That indictment warrant has been served on Amanda Meade, who was already lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville on separate charges.
Meade has been incarcerated since September 10, when she was arrested after being pulled over in a traffic stop by a deputy of the Magoffin County Sheriff Department , where she was charged with a total of eight felony, misdemeanor, and driving charges.
Those offenses Amanda Meade was charged with were: • POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE 1ST DEGREE, 1ST OFFENSE, (METHAMPHETAMINE), • DRUG PARAPHERNALIA – BUY/POSSESS, • POSSESSION OF HANDGUN BY CONVICTED FELON, • OPERATING ON SUSPENDED OR REVOKED OPERATORS LICENSE, • PROBATION VIOLATION (FOR FELONY OFFENSE), • GIVING OFFICER FALSE NAME OR ADDRESS, • LICENSE TO BE IN POSSESSION, • FAILURE TO OR IMPROPER SIGNAL.
Amanda Meade is scheduled to appear in Johnson County Circuit Court on November 3rd for an arraignment hearing on the murder charge. No date was known for Meade’s separate arraignment on the charges she is facing in Magoffin County.
