Joe “Brownie” Edward Childers

1943 — 2016

Joe “Brownie” Edward Childers, 73 of Lousia passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

He was born in Richardson, Kentucky on February 5, 1943 to the late Ralph and Carrie Belle-Childers. He was of the Christian Faith and worked in Farming for most of his life. “Brownie” was an avid guitar player and most notably played on many occasions with Ralph Stanley.

Besides his parents Mr. Childers was preceded in death by a daughter Herma Riffe; three sisters Rosie Savage, Annie Daniels and Bonnie Murphy as well as three brothers Clarence Childers, Steve Childers and John Childers.

He leaves behind a loving and devoted family including his wife of 54 years Judy Ruth Murphy-Childers of Lousia; three sons Herman (Sheila) Childers of Denton, Ralph (Pam) Childers of Webbville and Joe (Melissa) Childers of Louisa; one daughter Melissa (Dewey) Young of Donithan; one brother Ralph Childers, Jr. of Ohio; two sisters Marie Jordan of Blaine and Mary Howthorne of Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Young Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11:00 am with Brother Danny Clarkston officiating. Burial will follow at the Riffe Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 6-9 pm at the Young Funeral Home.
