Irene B. Lowe, 100, of Fort Gay, West Virginia passed away at home on Friday, March 3, 2023 after a brief illness.

Irene was born on July 27, 1922 to Arbie and Ruth Branham in Fort Gay, West Virginia. Irene was the Valedictorian of the Fort Gay High School Class of 1940, which was the 1st class of the school. After Irene graduated, she attended business school in Ashland, Kentucky and worked as a secretary for the government in Washington D.C.

In 1943, Irene married Carl Lowe in Fort Gay, West Virginia. Irene and Carl went on to have 5 children: Eddie, Larry, Doug, Nina, and Hazel.

Irene spent her time sewing, cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, as well as reading. She enjoyed mystery novels. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Arbie and Ruth Branham; her husband Carl E. Lowe; sister Aileen Genevese; and two children Carl E. Lowe, II, and Hazel Compton. She is survived by her children Larry (Carol) Lowe of Huntington, West Virginia, Paul (Suellen) Lowe of Huntington, West Virginia, and Nina (Ronald) Wellman of Louisa, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; sister Hazel Damron of Fort Gay, West Virginia; and a host of family and friends.

The family of Mrs. Lowe wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Hospice of Huntington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Huntington.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Young Funeral Home. Funeral services and burial will be private.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Lowe and her family.
