HOMELESS IN LOUISA SPEAK OUT AGAINST BURNING OF PROPERTY BY CITY

Controlled Fire by the River

Rediscover Louisa Volunteer’s clean up project was put into action Friday, Feb. 8, 2019. One of the volunteer’s said, “Mayor Harold Slone asked them to come do a controlled fire by the river to get rid of what people had left behind”.

Slone and a committee from the city recently looked around and contacted other cities about Homeless centers and reported back that Louisa does not have a homeless problem

Some of the homeless people in the community felt it was wrong since some of their belongings were down there behind Riverview Pharmacy on the river bank. So, they decided to come out of the shadows and speak out about being homeless in Louisa.

Joseph Billingsly

Joseph Billingsley originally from up north where he was making his way south when he found himself in Louisa. Joseph said,” I’m still thinking of traveling south toward Austin, TX Ministries but many people here have restored my faith in humanity through thru kindness and generosity.” Joseph with the help of Judge Executive, Phil Carter was able to do side jobs to pay for his stay at the local motel for at least a night.

Joseph became homeless over 12 years ago when he was in a car wreck and had to go on disability. He eventually lost his home along with his family and turned to drugs which led him to prison and when released had no where to go and he started bouncing from town to town.

Brandy and Jason Hale who have been homeless for over a year have stayed in various places throughout town such as both parks, behind the stage, down by the river and

Brandy and Jason Hale

abandoned barns. Some of their belongings were part of what was burnt by the Rediscover Louisa volunteers. They also look for daily work to try and provide food and shelter. Brandy wanted to thank Julie Patel and Giovanni’s for always helping and being there. And with a smile on her face said, “We will get back on our feet.”

During the cold nights they were able to utilize the warming stations at First Baptist Church and go in get warm and something to eat before heading back out into the weather. She said they have tried to get assistance locally but has had no luck other than the generosity of others.

By putting themselves out there doing interviews and allowing pictures they all hope to bring awareness to this problem. There are even more homeless families in the area all throughout the county. It may not seem like a big problem but it’s a problem they hope gets addressed soon, but not likely with the decision to not build a shelter in Louisa.

I do feel bad for the people that are homeless, but it bothers me that Mr. Hale and his “wife” want to speak out over losing there stuff but if you scroll on down through the Levisa Lazer you find they were just picked up for meth at one of the first drug busts by D.I.C.E. I mean I would imagine that the drug issue is making it harder for them to find work than being homeless.

    • John says:

I agree. He been caught more than once. I figure all of the money he receives goes to drugs. He also has family but I’m sure they are fed up with him. Drugs are a choice just like everything.

  2. Joey says:

I agree!!!! And how did they pay for the drugs??? I’m sure no drug dealer just felt sorry for them and gave them some meth for free!!!!

Someone has shit backwards.for moses he didnt have any trailer that burnt on sunnyside.so im trying to figure out who gave u mose permission to live in my trailer that burnt in april..

    • She Told Me says:

It was his old lady Mercy that said her trailer that burnt down in sunny side.

My heart goes out to these people. It could be any of us or a member of our family. I’ll be praying that they get their lives straightened out.
I will help them when I can with food and basic necessities. I believe God wants us to help others. Yes they are judged by their drug use but they are still human and don’t deserve to be hungry and cold.

Funny thing is mose is not a veteran never has been also his “wife” doesn’t have cancer either they r jut pull heads that no one likes and I know this for a fact I’ve known him my whole life.

In addition to the 2 arrested for meth on Feb 9th, Billingsley was just making headlines in August of 2018 when he led police in Ohio on a chase and wrecked his car under the influence of both drugs and alcohol. Prior to that in April 2018 he was arrested on forgery charges. If you look at his public Facebook profile the pic is of him flipping the camera off with a child in the photograph. In January 2018 he was talking about having an apartment. There are resources out there for people struggling with homelessness and where I live now there are plenty of people who are homeless and truly struggling. The few people that are featured in this article are not good examples of people who have fallen on hard luck and become homeless. If you’re going to write a sob story about homelessness in an attempt to shame the mayor and praise Phil Carter I suggest doing some background digging on the subjects of your article and not timing the post hours after another post on your website announcing 2 had been arrested for meth and drug trafficking.

    • MNH says:

I agree with you completely and I would also like to add to my first statement that with further digging I have found that since around July of last year, Brandie has consistently been picked up for drug related offenses and also forgery. I know she did have a home and a vehicle at a point not that long ago but it seems like she hasn’t learned her lesson or she would have reached out to her family instead of following Hale around like a lost pup. Honestly I don’t get how the heck she and Hale are out of jail to continue doing the same things repeatedly. Like how many times do you have to get caught with meth before they decide that you are a menace to society and need to spend some time thinking about your choices in jail. Honestly, who the heck does this girl know that she gets a slap on the wrist and released on her own recognizance?

    • Brandie Mollette-Hale says:

I wish people knew what actually happened. We had found a place when we went over to get clothes I had forgotten when I stayed there before. While we were there it got raided. We didn’t have anything and were just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Last time, we were guilty as shit… This time we weren’t. Jason and I are trying to do everything we can to straighten our lives up. Just seems to be when we get one or two steps forward, we take 10 back. We’re gonna prove everyone who doubts us wrong.
      You’ll all see.

      • MNH says:

If this is actually Brandie then I hope that what you say is true and you do prove everyone wrong but I think you both need to realize that to get the help you need you all need to get into rehab and straighten up. You probably feel like you all just can’t be apart BUT maybe being apart and getting your own crap together individually will make things easier on you all when you COMPLETE the program and reunite. Sometimes you just have to decide that you want help and do it and if he isn’t onboard then do it for you and if you aren’t onboard and he wants to get right then sorry to say he should drop you and go on. Just get it together and stop being in The Levisa Lazer for this crap all the time!

  7. CTJ says:

Find it really interesting that the Jason and Brandi talk about not being able to get assistance locally. Know for a fact that current and former law enforcement officers have tried to get them into rehab and even had a bed set up with all they needed to do was call and they didn’t. You can not help people get straight if they don’t want to and if keep enabling them then they will never take that step.

  8. Jerry says:

Why does Phil Carters little clothing shop in the back of his autoparts store just keep giving stuff to them knowing they selling it for drugs or using it to burn for heat. This is reason I stopped taking my stuff there.

    • KY123 says:

Because it’s better to be kind than to be mean. Sometimes, kind people can change these people. Bitter people like you don’t change anything. You just bring people down with you.

      • Jasi says:

KIND are you seriously going to speak of kind when one that works at that clothing place has dirt on her hands. The stories I could tell about her and that place would make you want to scream. I don’t donate there. I give directly to someone instead. That way I know for a fact it’s going to those that need it and not to those that want it for gain.

      • Caleb says:

Finally! I’ve been reading and reading trying to find the secret words!
It’s better to be kind. I know what y’all are thinking and i think the same things also. People become frustrated and aggravated with the heroin addicts and i totally get that. Being kind to one person and staying on them like tinsel from Christmas is so hard and difficult because there’s drug emotions and real emotions, drug emotions are not real. Enough said. I found my BUDDY, so how about y’all pick your buddy! Pick a buddy, save a life! PLEASE

  9. Idgaf says:

Brandie don’t half to be homeless she chose to be homeless she has a very supportive family that loves her an tried to get her help she went into rehab an came straight back out with no results she has a very nice home but chooses drugs over family! jason has been in an out of jail I don’t feel sorry for some one who don’t want help just a handout!!

  10. John says:

I’m sure this guy draws a well deserved disability check. I for one know what happened to him. What does he do with it? Most people would find a place to stay and put food on the table. Don’t feel sorry for him at all. He needs to make better choices.

  11. Loretha says:

Sorry but I don’t feel sorry for them because I know who they are an they wasn’t living in a house that burnt that was my sisters house that burnt. These two lived where my grandfather lived an wrecked the place an that picture of the barn is my grandfather’s old barn so I don’t feel nothing for these two all they want is peoole to feel sorry for them an help them get them so drugs that’s it an when I go to my grandfather’s house I’ll take a pic of the barn an the house an prove to everyone

  12. Shaking my head again says:

I read this article twice to see if I could understand the “story”….. the people were complaining because items that they left on property that did not belong to them was removed and cleaned up? How many of you have walked in that area? Would you let them leave those items in your yard? So Mayor Slone should stop trying to clean up Louisa and leave those areas a mess? Really… I don’t understand.

  13. U know who says:

Watch out at the motel because Moses is a meth user and a thief he is wanted in other states by police , he has had places to stay and gets threw out , and don’t remember him having a trailer burn, he is a compulsive liar,

  14. Angel says:

Many homeless people have some sort of substance abuse problem but that doesn’t mean they deserve to die from cold, hunger, or get treated with any less dignity than any one else. As a predominantly Christian community we need to band together and create a safe haven for those less fortunate.

    • Gabe says:

If they continuously refuse help and continue to waste their money on drugs, then they don’t really want help. They want to be enabled. Mark 6:11 tells us if they won’t listen to you, then leave that place and shake the dust off your feet.

    • Jasi says:

Angel you Christians need to band together to stop abortions. The taking of innocent lives. These people people are addicts, liars and thieves that does not want to help themselves. They only want drugs and handouts. Move them into your home if you feel soooo strongly that they need help. I bet that will never happen. The author of this story should be ashamed to post a story without researching and publishing all of the facts!!!

  17. Rita says:

Where is Christ’s love and compassion for these people? No matter what led them to being homeless they still deserve the basics in life. I’m not saying to give them cash but a hot meal, a warm place to sleep and basic hygiene items all given with love will go a long way. In addition we as a community should lift these people up in prayer and God will do the rest. I for one am making plans to reach out to these people.

    • Jasi says:

Rita why don’t you reach out to stop innocent little babies from being aborted? Their little limbs ripped from their bodies. Go on YouTube and watch some of those videos about abortion and you’ll see who are the helpless innocent ones. The people in this article are not innocent!!

  18. Loretha says:

I don’t feel sorry for these two I know who they are an what house they are talking about they are talking about my sister’s house that burnt an the barn they are talking about is my grandfather’s barn. Theses two was living in my grandfather’s house next door to where the trailer burnt that was my sisters. They trashed my grandfather’s house an our family put them out because they was wanting to make meth an crap. When I go to my grandfather’s house I will show u all that same barn it sits out from my grandfather’s house which is yellow an I should know what the barn looks like because me an my brother an sisters use to play in it. Also if anyone wants me to prove it I can take u an show y the place.

I am so tired of people feeling sorry for people who are on drugs, don’t work, & always wanting something free!!!!!! It’s ridiculous to me!!! Help yourself!!! Don’t wait on somebody to give something constantly!!!! My hometown where I was born n the old General Hospital n 1955 has become so different that it really hurts me to even think of how it’s become.

  21. TK says:

Why did they contact OTHER cities to see if THIS town has a homeless problem? If they are living in the streets they most likely are not traveling either.

  22. Mil says:

Brandi was just arrested for drugs and listed as the home owner at said location…how is she homeless??

  23. Jo says:

DICE NEEDS TO CHECK THESE SITUATIONS OUT AND PUT A STOP TO THE LYING, DRUGS, CRIME, AND SLUMMING PEOPERTY THAT ISN’T THEIRS. ADDICTION IS BAD, BUT IF THEY WON’T GET HELP THEN THEY SHOULD BE LOCKED UP. THEY COULDNT KEEP DOING THEIR ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR. I DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER, BUT ENABLING THEM MAKES IT WORSE.

  24. Idgie says:

Did she really say “till we get back on our feet”? Lol Not making fun, just thought poor choice of words on her part.

No wrong one. Brandy Perkins owns it, not me.
As far as I know I’m the only one that’s posted with my name. I don’t read through everything, but laugh at some of the things people say who don’t have a clue.
And to Idgie I literally Lmao when I read your comment. I wasn’t thinking and honestly forget about him not having legs. He’s just Jason. I love him with or without legs. I think the positive and say I always have a seat if I get tired lol

Ya know I moved away from Louisa a few years back and I’m glad I did cause they’re ain’t much there anymore, and how y’all talk each other down there never will be. Just out of curiosity, do y’all not notice that a single glimmer of hope or shelter or whatever, can be talked about in this paper. Y’all just wait and itch and chomp at the bit to absolutely destroy anything talked about that may help some people. Yes they may be on drugs , yes they may have a past, but good grief, haven’t u ever thought that if they didn’t live in a place where their every move and thought was gonna be gone through with a fine tooth comb by y’all, they may feel a little more ambitious,or less withdrawn? cmon man, your suppose to want to see people better themselves and any little thing mentioned or spoke of that may help lead some of these lost people in that direction, you just can’t WAIT to talk down or talk about. Worry about yourself , not the fact that someone other than u may get help or not! And quit talkin bout how unworthy they are, stay in your lane, and pray to god your kids or family don’t end up in a rut one day.. these people are human, just like you! And quit bein so worried that Bobby told Johnny that Sammy told Fred’s uncle billy he was a druggy and use to steal!!!Worry about u and your own!!!! Like a bunch of third grade tattletales… y’all should be ashamed! Smdh

  26. Ken Roberts says:

The reality is that these people are addicts. Meth is a highly addictive substance. Once a person is addicted to meth, only one single thing in this world matters, and that is “more meth”. Who they have to lie to,steal from, be it friends or family or whoever, it simply doesn’t matter. All that matters is more meth, period. Yes, they are human beings and yes they need help, however as long as they are on meth life is only going to Get worse for them. While I understand addiction, I have a little difficulty understanding how how someone born/blessed with human intelligence can allow themselves to Get involved with this mess in The first place. It is no secret what meth use does to a person. I’m sorry, I don’t have an answer, having experienced a family member totally destroy their life, I really wish I did.

  27. Litterbugs says:
