HARD TO JUDGE THIS YEAR’S JUDGE/EXECUTIVE CANDIDATES

Osborn challenger keeps low profile;

WE FOUND TERRY WEBB!

With just 20 days left until the 2018 Ky. Primary election, I think it’s time we get down to business in selecting who will lead our county into the next four years and the future.

Judge Executive

So far, not much luck with the judge/executive candidates.

In county government the judge/executive (I remember when they called them the “county judge” and they had judicial power) is the top member of the fiscal court and has hiring and firing powers and the responsibility to make the budget work.

In the 2018 race there has been much less “talk” and campaigning than I would have thought when there are seven candidates seeking the $85,000 position held by incumbent John Osborne, who because of seniority makes closer to $90,000.

Osborne would appear to be the one to beat in this race with a head start in staff and administration connections alone.

He has refused to answer our question concerning what needs to be done to attract industry to Lawrence County. I suppose he is letting his record stand for itself — or more likely he is not tech savvy enough to send an email.

‘Challenge’r Webb straight to the point

Challenger Terry Webb was a real “challenge” for our staff to catch up with for a photo and interview. He said he works a long day and has not been able to campaign much. He does not have a FB page or website and uses cell phone which is not in the directory.

But we met up with him last week, Here is what the Lazer’s Tane’ Woods Mosley got from the talk:

Terry Webb, 61 is a candidate for Lawrence County Judge Executive. Webb is a lifelong resident of Lawrence County, raised in Little Cat and remains a resident of Fallsburg.

Terry's daughters and grandchildren, Back row - Erica Webb, Terry Webb, Brittany Kitts Front row - Dawson, Dane, Ani, and Emalynn

He is retired from the Kentucky Division of Forestry after working 40 years, then decided to go back to work part time for them and in his spare time he is also a farmer and was on the Fallsburg Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.

Terry has two daughters, Erica Webb and Brittany Kitts and 3 grandchildren.

When asked his reasons for running for Judge Executive, he stated, “I am new to politics but I am also willing to do whatever it takes to get grants and jobs into Lawrence County.

*  We have county roads that are almost beyond repair and without good roads, how can jobs come in to our area?

*  I am not sure of a solution to the drug problem in our area but I am also willing to do anything necessary to assist with curing that.

*  I bring to the table a work ethic instilled by my family and that is the key to progress. I want Lawrence County to be better for EVERYONE!

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES:

REPUBLICAN JUDGE/EXEC. CANDIDATES PRIMARY 2018: TOP ROW, L TO R, Phil Carter, Millard F. Cox, Charlie France II, and Earl Boggs. Bottom row, L to R Vince Doty, and James A. Perry.

Phillip Carter, is a former judge/executive and the perceived favorite in this race that is hard to gauge because of the number of newcomers.

Other than Carter and candidate Earl Boggs, a two time magistrate from Blaine, none of the six candidates who are vying for the opportunity to unseat two term judge John Osborne in the November General Election has run a county-wide race before. Boggs has also never run county-wide.

And only candidate Charlie France II has answered our call for a plan to help bring jobs and business to Lawrence County. You can see his information HERE.

If any of the candidates sends their ideas or at least information to markgrayson@me.com , we will be glad to post it, but we wanted the public to at least see what you look like.
