Governor says Kentucky must ‘scrub the stench’ of Beshear family

Gov. Matt Bevin escalated his attacks on Democratic challenger Andy Beshear and his father, saying ahead of Tuesday’s election that Kentucky “needs to scrub the stench of corruption from the Beshear family.”

In a tweet on Saturday, Bevin posted a photo of Steve Beshear, the former Kentucky governor and father of Attorney General Andy Beshear, in a suit with a red tie. He’s sitting behind Hunter and Jill Biden.

“Man in red tie: ‘Some day, I want my son to grow up to be just like Hunter Biden,'” Bevin wrote. “Sometimes dreams do come true…”

Bevin is in a pitched reelection battle against Andy Beshear, with a Mason-Dixon poll in mid-October showing them essentially tied.

Bevin has previously compared Andy and Steve Beshear to former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, a name tied to the impeachment inquiry for President Donald Trump.

During an Oct. 28 debate, Bevin told Beshear that he has “never created a job in your entire life — ever.”

“You’re the Hunter Biden of Kentucky,” Bevin said at the time. “Everything you’ve gotten, your father (former Gov. Steve Beshear) has handed to you.”

When contacted by The Courier Journal regarding Bevin’s tweet, Beshear campaign spokesman Sam Newton responded with a tweet from Monday of the Attorney General discussing health care and public schools.

“If you’re covering tweets, we’d point you to this video that Andy tweeted discussing health care and public schools today for balance,” Newton wrote in an email.

Bevin is to be at a rally in Lexington on Monday evening with Trump, who also attacks opponents on Twitter.
