Republican challenger calls on Gov. Bevin stop nationalizing race and start talking about real issues that matter to Kentuckians; also calls for Governor’s Office to end ‘old time Democrat-style politics’ ahead of May Primary
LONDON- This morning from his statewide campaign headquarters, Rep. Robert Goforth (R-East Bernstadt), who is challenging Gov. Matt Bevin in the May 21st Republican Primary, issued a challenge to Bevin to stop nationalizing his re-election campaign and to participate in at least one debate before Kentucky Republicans cast their primary ballots. Goforth also had sharp criticism for what he labeled “old time Democrat-style politics” from the Bevin Administration.
Goforth said Bevin should “quit trying to hide behind President Trump, Sen. McConnell, and the Republican Governor’s Association and seriously talk about what matters to Kentuckians.”
“Instead of talking about the $400 million in taxpayers’ money that has been paid out by Kentucky Retirement Systems to pension fund managers, or what we can do to improve infrastructure, or how we can strengthen education, or how we can go about implementing serious comprehensive tax reform, and the many issues that matter to Kentucky, all we are hearing from Gov. Bevin are diatribes about national politics. We know how very badly he wants to be in D.C., but Bevin’s running for governor and he owes the voters at least one frank political discussion with his primary opponent before Kentucky Republicans go to the polls,” Goforth said.
Goforth also demanded that Bevin “immediately end the old time Democrat-style politics” the Governor’s Office is currently engaged in.
“Matt Bevin has always attempted to portray himself as a righteous outsider who is above politics, but his administration is engaged in very worst behavior that we have seen for generations in Frankfort—behavior that should make any respectable Republican cringe. Blake Brickman is shaking down road contractors every day for campaign cash, telling them that a gas tax is on the way in 2020 if they will fill up Bevin’s coffers. Meanwhile, after ignoring them for three and a half years, Bevin is doling out discretionary road projects to Republican counties across the state to try and curry favor before the election. It’s shameful behavior, and voters must reject it on May 21st,” said Goforth.
Goforth also stated that “Matt Bevin has been fundamentally dishonest with Kentuckians from the moment he said he would release his tax returns if elected governor when he knew good and well that the day would never come when he would do that.”
Bevin to busy trying to fire the teachers
