FORT GAY ROUTS BUFFALO ON 8TH GRADE NIGHT

Fort Gay, W. Va. — The Fort Gay middle school football team celebrated 8th grade night with a 40-8 victory over Buffalo on Wednesday on GMB Field at the Wilts Salmons Athletic Complex.

Fort Gay took the opening kickoff and marched right down the field and Braylon Stumbo scored from 5 yards out and Keaton Blackburn added the two point conversion run and it was 8-0 Vikings with 4:34 left in the first quarter. 

After Braylon Conn recovered a Bison fumble he connected with Braxton Jones on a ten yard touchdown and Kyndal Kincaid tacked on the two point conversion and it was Fort Gay 16-0 with 1:21 left in the first quarter. 

In the second quarter Stumbo raced in from 10 yards outs to make it 22-0 Vikings with 3:21 left in the first half. 

Blackburn recovered the onside kick and on the first play he went 47 yards on a nice run before stepping out of bounds at the one yard line and then finished the drive off with a one yard touchdown and it was Fort Gay 28-0 with 1:30 to go before halftime. 

On the ensuing kickoff Stumbo recovered a fumble and Conn hit Braden Kitts with an 8 yard touchdown strike and it was 34-0 with :42 second left in the half. 

Buffalo returned the kickoff inside the Viking 10 yard line but Braxton Jones recovered a fumble on the next play and Fort Gay led 34-0 at halftime. 

On the first drive for Buffalo in the second Half Kitts picked off a pass and went 47 yards to the house and it was 40-0 Fort Gay with 4:21 left in the third quarter. 

Conn picked off a pass late in the third quarter before Timmy Nichols put Buffalo on the scoreboard with a 5 yard touchdown run and then hit Blaze Brillhart for the two point conversion to set the final score of 40-8 Fort Gay.

Fort Gay will end the regular season with a trip out Wayne to face the Pioneers on Thursday October 12th. 

Wayne Co. playoffs will begin Thursday October 19th.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Great win for us on 8th Grade night, …thought the kids played hard and came out ready to play from the opening drive. Any time you can get out in front it’s a good thing. So proud of our 8th graders tonight throughout the whole season. One more left before the playoffs.” 

“… Our defense was flying around tonight. Causing turnovers and putting them in tough situations the whole game. We are finally starting to get healthy and huge for our depth.”
