An as yet unnamed Dept. of Highways was injured when struck and dragged several ft. in a U.S. 52 accident Monday afternoon about 4:00pm…

FT. GAY, W.VA. — The wreck happened Monday afternoon near the Rebel Mart on US 52, The Department Of Highway had a construction crew working there when a Fed Ex truck swerved to miss a motorcyclist and hit the DOH employee according to a release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The DOH worker was hit while holding a construction sign and was dragged several yards. All three involved in the accident were taken to a hospital. No names have been released yet.

The Department of Transportation Secretary Bryd White has issued the following statement:

“It saddens me to think we have a 25 year old with his whole life in front of him, and who just started with us about a month ago, hoping to go full time with DOT one day – now lying in a hospital bed. Even one accident is too many. There are so many hardworking men and women, who are trying to fix our state’s roads, who should be able to do their job without needing to look over their shoulder every few seconds. I know it can be frustrating to drive slower that you’re used to, but our men and women deserve to make it home to their families safely at the end of day. Today one of our workers, that did not happen. My heart breaks and your should too. I am praying for this man to make a speedy recovery and I am praying that all motorist traveling through West Virginia put themselves in the shoes of our incredible DOT workers and remember to slow down and be alert while driving through work zones”.

One citizen of Fort Gay tells us that the stretch of US 52 has always been dangerous and there have been multiple accidents there.

The accident is still under investigation and no other details have been released. Stay tuned to The Lazer for update.
