Wilson, N.C. — Former Lawrence Co. Bulldog Baseball star CJ Fairchild notched his first career win for Kentucky Wesleyan in a 6-1 victory over #17 Ashland University on Saturday.

It was the Panthers first win over a Top 25 team since February 2016.

Fairchild held the Eagles to just three base runners in the first four innings. Ashland never had a baserunner reach third base. In his first collegiate start, Fairchild picked up the win going 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts, four hits and one earned run.

Wesleyan’s home opener is slated for this upcoming weekend with a three-game series against Northwood. The two teams will play a double header on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday at Panther Park in Owensboro, Ky.

PLAYER’S COMMENTS

“… It was a unreal feeling to be back on a baseball field. Made it even better for it being my first outing in college and pitching against a nationally ranked team. Just last night felt amazing to be back on the field again competing with my guys.”

“… It was a long process not playing my last high school season and maybe not ever playing again until Kentucky Wesleyan offered me. So once I committed I had to get back in a routine of baseball this fall and we were working everyday on whatever it was we needed to. Then we went on break and it was on yourself to do what you needed to do. I think it shows that me and all ours guys did that. So that being said, it was a very long process felt too long but we made it and it all paid off last night.”
