An employee of the Floyd County Detention Center has been arrested in connection with an altercation at the jail.

Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley announced that Aaron Rounds, 44, of Garrett, KY., who is the deputy jailer for Floyd County Detention Center, was arrested on Tuesday morning, January 24, on charges of first-degree official misconduct and fourth-degree assault.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident involving the assault of an inmate by Aaron Rounds, who allegedly struck the inmate several times on Friday, January 13th, with his fist and a weapon, causing minor injury to the inmate.

This incident occurred while Aaron Rounds was acting in his role as deputy jailer.

Jailer Steve Little said in an interview with Mountain Top News that he became aware of the incident and turned it over to Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley and the Prestonsburg Police Department.

“I made a promise to the people that I would keep the jail safe, secure and clean, and I felt in order to do that I needed to to turn it over to them,” said jailer Little .

Because of his connection to the Floyd County Detention Center, Aaron Rounds was taken to and booked in the Pike County Detention Center in Pikeville; where he was released from the jail several hours later after he posted out on a $5,000 surety bond.

The incident remains under investigation by Prestonsburg Police Department detective Dennis Hutchinson, and the Floyd County’s Attorney’s Office.

Both of the charges Aaron Rounds was charged with are misdemeanors, meaning the most jail time he could receive if found guilty in a criminal trial is one year.
