School Safety Plan Same As Last Year, Fletcher Says

OFFICER MUSICK
FLETCHER

With the cropping up of a school system police force in Greenup County as well as other systems who are preparing to do the same, Lawrence County Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher was asked the question Monday and here is what he said:

“…We plan to continue working with the County Sheriff and the Louisa Police Department to provide SROs, with the funding that we provide” Fletcher said.  “We hope that the upcoming state budget will give more funding specifically for SROs which would allow us, possibly, to add our own police force sometime in the future.

Currently, we have one SRO (Mr. Julius Musick).

TURF DELAY, THEN STARTUP EXPLAINED

Two weeks after announcing to the board that a problem with the installation of the new $1 million turf football and soccer field in time for the August 25, Farm Bureau Bowl at Luke Varney, Jr. stadium in Louisa.

But suddenly construction commenced and the field is now filled with the latest in high school sports, turf.

Supt. Dr. Rob Fletcher answered the LAZER question of how did construction get back on track after the announcement:

“… Dr. Mark,

I met with the Vice President of Operations.  They put together a plan of adding gravel with additional compaction in two areas.  Once they had work crews available, everything went pretty smoothly.”

“There were a couple of instances when the machine that was used to spread the sand and the rubber was not working.  On one of the occasions, one of our students (and a football player), Blake Prater, welded the apparatus to get it back up and running.”

Fletcher says come view the new turf:

“If you get an opportunity, come out to the football field,”  Fletcher said.  “It is good to see the turf project completed.”

Surrounding counties like Martin, Boyd and Johnson and many others throughout the mountains and state have turf on their fields because of lower maintenance costs and an “even playing field with no rocks or holes,” said one former SCHS player who said the difference is huge.

“If definitely different. But it is like light and day how much better turf is than dirt,” he said.

An editor needs to read the line below again!!! It doesn’t make any sense. I understand what the line is trying to say but could use some serious work!!

“Two weeks after announcing to the board that a problem with the installation of the new $1 million turf football and soccer field in time for the August 25, Farm Bureau Bowl at Luke Varney, Jr. stadium in Louisa.”
    Where’s the rest of it?
