Lawrence Co. Schools superintendent Dr. Rob Fletcher released a statement today putting all students back to virtual learning that were in person learning.

This was a result as Lawrence County Health Department has received several rapid tests today with the first coming back positive and the anticipation of several more coming back positive. Dr. Fletcher stated that these rapid tests were not related to anyone in school and this was out of the abundance  of caution and allow time for confirmations to come in.

He said he will re-evaluate all information on Sunday to make a further determination. As of now the football game is still scheduled for Friday at home.

Lawrence County Health Dept. director Debbie Miller explained the situation this way:

“…The health department does not perform COVID testing. Another facility had reported to us that they had completed rapid tests which were positive and were following up with PCR confirmation testing.
This was only for some of the 14 we reported. The others had already been confirmed.
We do not report positives unless confirmed. The county’s incidence rate went above 25 today which makes the county red and indicates schools should not hold in-person classes.
Please follow up with the health department for information regarding coronavirus in the county.”
