PLANS FOR IN-PERSON SCHOOL BY NOV. 30

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Based on the number of positive COVID-19 cases provided by our local health department officials, Lawrence County continues to exceed the threshold of critical, or “RED,” status. In order to allow our families to plan for the Thanksgiving holiday and due to our current incidence rate, Lawrence County Schools will extend the “at-home” learning time frame through the Thanksgiving holiday.

We will consider returning to full-day “in-person” learning on November 30th. The next announcement will occur by November 27th, at the latest. For clarification, here is our school calendar for the next two weeks:

• “At home” learning will continue for  Friday, November 13th. o Monday through Friday, November 16th – 20th .  Monday and Tuesday, November 23rd and 24th.

• No classes will occur on November 25th, 26th, and 27th due to Thanksgiving break.

• The next announcement will occur by November 27th.

As stated in previous messages, Governor Andy Beshear recommends that school officials view the state map each Thursday to determine if “in-person” learning is an option for the following week. Also, the state map does not always match local data. Specifically, it took the state map 5 days to reflect the “RED” status that was indicated by local health department data on November 4th. With this in mind, we will continue to rely on the state map AND local health department data when making the decision for full-day, “in-person” learning. Please continue to monitor your student’s progress through Infinite Campus. If you have any issues, please notify your student’s teacher(s) and/or principal, as necessary. Many of our schools offer “in-person” tutoring opportunities, as allowed by the Governor’s guidance documents. This may be an option for your child as we continue with “at home” learning. Finally, we hope that each of you stay healthy and safe. As always, thank you for being…

All In,

Dr. Robert Fletcher
