For Immediate release:

At approximately 3am on February 11, 2021, the ice storm that moved through the area caused a loss of power to Louisa Public Utility’s Five Forks pumping station. This station feeds the tank that provides water to the Fallsburg area and North Route 3 and all side roads. The tank was nearly full when power was lost and we were able to provide water to the area until the early morning hours of February 12th while waiting for power to be restored.

Pictured is employee David Cordle scaling the 75 ft water tank at Five Forks who braved the cold and ice last night to check the water level in the tank manually due to the power outage (photo credit Lana Salyers).

In anticipation that power may not be restored before tank levels were depleted, Water plant employees spent the day yesterday securing a generator to get the pump station back online, the generator is now currently in the process of being wired into the station and we expect water service to be restored in the area later this afternoon.

It will take time to refill the tank and restore adequate water pressure once the generator is up and running, we ask customers in this area to please conserve water once it does start flowing again to expedite the process of refilling the tank. If you can hold off on laundry and doing dishes we ask that you do so until February 13th or later. There will be no need to fill your tubs or sinks in preparation of another water outage, as we have and will be on generator power and do not expect another outage at this time.

Please be advised that once water service is restored in the area, there will be a boil water advisory until proper samples have been taken in compliance with Kentucky Regulations.

I want to say a big thank you to our Utilities Employees as they have worked diligently through the heavy rain event a couple of weeks ago to, now, the power outages due to the ice storm.

Also a big thank you to our customers for their patience and understanding as we work to restore their service.

Mayor Harold Slone

My only question would be…why wasn’t a generator already installed?
