Saturday, March 25th — a day that will go down in Lawrence County history!

Savage farms maple festival

The first ever Maple Festival was held at Savage Farms which is located on Rt. 3, about 6 or 7 miles past Fallsburg. Owners, Keith and Jennifer Moore had no idea Maply syrup by the barrell!what kind of turnout the festival would bring. By the time it started at 9:00 am, the line for the pancake breakfast and farm tour was all the way out the door. It’s estimated over 300 people were in attendance. Many were from neighboring counties, and several out of staters.

Savage Farms was established in 2006, and the family has been producing other items such as homemade jams, jellies, pies, and other delectable goodies. It is also a ‘pick your own’ establishment come harvest time. Speaking of harvest, Savage Farms is a favorite stop on the popular Heritage Harvest Tour that is held the last weekend in September.

Visitors had a blast! However, when the Moores started tapping maple trees on the farm and producing maple syrup and butter, things really took off. They are now the largest commercial syrup producer in Kentucky and the ONLY one in eastern KY. Keith Moore said they are now starting to make Kentucky bourbon maple syrup which is also wonderful. This syrup has to be aged six months, so it wasn’t available at the festival, but Keith said it will be ready for the Heritage Harvest Tour.

The Lawrence County Tourism Commission had special rack cards made up for this event, predicting it would be a hit. Was it ever! The tourism folks said this is a great event addition to Lawrence County because there is not much going on in the spring. It will draw people in and get those who haven’t been here before to explore other attractions in the county.

Talkin it out at the Maple Fest

Here’s what Keith Moore had to say about the Maple Festival:

“…Wowwwww! Let’s start off by saying THANK YOUUU!! Thank you to everyone who has supported us from the very beginning, thank you to all of our friends and families who worked so hard all day to make sure our first festival went as smooth as possible!! Thank you to all of our vendors who brought their crafts to display! & the Maple Festival smoked pork was amazing!! Last but not least, HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to spend the day with us!! We hope you & your families had an awesome… day with us at the farm. It’s hectic and crazy and SO much hard work but days like today make it completely worth it! We know we’ve got some improvements to make, and we plan to grow every year. Definitely working on some kids activities, efficiency with the tours, and bathroom situation. In time we will get it all worked out and with your continued support we will get there!

We also still have some 8 oz bottles of syrup left, maple butter, baskets, and some Tshirt left! Message us or call us at 606-686-1120 and we’ll see if we can get ya fixed up!”
