Prestonsburg, Ky. — Lawrence Co. Boys Soccer ( 3-1 ) picked up a huge 3-2 victory over 15th Region rival Prestonsburg ( 3-2 ) at Stonecrest sports park on Tuesday.

It was the first win in school history for the Dawgs at Prestonsburg.

The Bulldogs led 3-0 at halftime behind a penalty kick from Sam LeFever, a goal from Andrew Vinson and goal from Blake Maynard with the assist going to Vinson.

Lawrence Co. is 3-0 in the 15th Region with victories over Belfry 4-0, win over Pikeville 6-1 and the Prestonsburg victory. The lone loss was to Russell 5-0 on August 18th on the road.

The Bulldogs will host Ashland tonight at 6:00 with the Girls playing Ashland at 8:00.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Scott Johnson

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… It was a big game for us last night. Prestonsburg has been playing well this season and we knew this game would be a good measure of how teams are sorting out in the 15th Region. Lawrence Co. boys have never won at Prestonsburg and we were looking to get over that hurdle.”

“… We caught a lucky break in the first minute and drew a foul in the box. Sam LeFever was able to score on the PK and we went up 1-0. It was a back and forth evenly played match in the first half. The only difference was we were able to put away a couple of goals to take us into halftime.”

“… Early in the second half, Andrew Vinson ( who scored our second goal ) dished to Blake Maynard for a goal to put us up 3-0. Unfortunately we let the game get away from us and PBurg came back and scored twice with 8 min left.

“… It was an intense finish and one that I am sure we will see more of when we play again on Districts and hopefully for a regional championship.”

“… Ryland Brady did a great job in the net for us and had a couple of clutch saves.”

“… Our defensive unit has really been coming along with the guidance of our two senior captains at center back, Logan Southers and Matthew Clevenger.”
