PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – The Fiber Optics training at Big Sandy Community and Technical College has attracted students from a number of states and Illinois resident Kris Robertson is one of those.

Kris Roberson studies and gets hands on training with the Fiber Optics training at Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Kris Roberson works as a certification and training manager at IPC. Inc. and he heard about our seven-day training from Jim Hayes with the F.O.A. The course includes certifications as a Certified Fiber Optics Technician, Certified Fiber Optics Specialists in Testing and Maintenance and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Outside Plant Cabling.

“I am working to get an industry certification to help bring the training into the electronics industry.” Said Kris Roberson. “Tom is a very personable instructor. He brought complicated material and made it very approachable.” Said Kris.

Fiber optics is such a large part of our everyday lives, and Kris is working to make that an even bigger reality.

“The students who complete this training are ready to hit the ground running.’ Said Tom Rouch, fiber optics instructor.” The most rewarding part of this job is when you get an email from a student telling you about a job they’re starting in the industry.”
