STATE POLICE OPEN DEATH INVESTIGATION IN MARTIN COUNTY AFTER WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN INSIDE BURNING HOUSE FIRE

KSP INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE FIRE WAS ACCIDENT, BUT INVESTIGATION INTO CAUSE OF DEATH ONGOING

OCTOBER 28, 2018 – written by WADE QUEEN

The Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly house fire in Martin County, Kentucky that lead to woman being found deceased inside.

According to a KSP-Post #09 report, troopers were contacted along with other local emergency agencies and were notified of a house structure fire around 10:30 A.M. Thursday morning, October 25, in the Poplar Fork area of Martin County, and that they were told that there was someone was possibly trapped inside.

When fire fighting unit crews responded to the scene and put the fire out, they found the remains of a body inside. The Martin County coroner pronounced the victim dead.

The deceased was preliminary identified as Dwana Damron Turner. Her age was not given..

KSP Post 9 dispatched their arson investigator and a detective to the house fire scene.

The victim’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy. That is also where they will formally issue positive identification of the person who was found deceased in the burned house.

Right now, KSP officers say that it appears this was an accidental death. Detectives and arson investigators however are still looking into the official cause. The case remains open and is being led by KSP Detective Tony Tackett.
