EXPERIENCE PIONEER LIFE AT CARTER CAVES STATE RESORT PARK

OLIVE HILL, Ky. (July 18, 2018) – A weeklong event featuring pioneering life in Kentucky will be presented at Carter Caves State Resort Park in Olive Hill July 23-29.

The annual Pioneer Life Week showcases life during the late 18th and early 19th century. Visitors can enjoy a step back in time in the Pioneer Encampment near the Carter Caves campground.

Guests can also see reenactors demonstrate the skills that were needed for life on the frontier Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This year’s event will also feature a special Kentucky Chautauqua performance featuring Private William Greathouse, a War of 1812 soldier, on Thursday at 8 p.m. The Private Greathouse performance is sponsored by the Kentucky Humanities Council and Greathouse is portrayed by Harry Smith of Cynthiana, Kentucky.

Another performance by Jonathon Hagee, a colonial balladeer, is on Saturday in the Pioneer Encampment. This Hagee’s first appearance at Pioneer Life Week.

Both performances are free to the public.

For a complete list of activities and programs for the entire week, like us on Facebook or contact the park’s recreation office at 606-286-4411.

Carter Caves State Resort Park has lodge rooms, cottages, a campground including horse campground with full hook ups, and a restaurant featuring Kentucky fare. For more information, visit www.parks.ky.gov
