The Special Needs Registry identifies individuals who require special assistance during emergencies

Lawrence County Emergency Management is in the process of establishing a special needs registry for the citizens of Lawrence County.

The Special Needs Registry identifies individuals who require special assistance during emergencies, including, but not limited to hurricanes, evacuations, sheltering-in-place, and chemical spills.

Any individual, regardless of age, who has a chronic condition, disability, special healthcare need, or may require additional assistance during a time of emergency should register.

Examples include people who:

* Use life support systems such as oxygen, respirator, ventilator, dialysis, pacemaker, or are insulin dependent

* Have mobility disabilities and use a wheelchair, scooter, walker, cane, or other mobility device

* Are visually impaired, blind, hard of hearing, or Deaf

* Have speech, cognitive, developmental or mental health disabilities

* Use assistive animals or a prosthesis.

We hope to develop an online form in the future but at this time we simply ask you to email LCEMA with your essential information. Type of assistance that you may need, any disability or medical equipment that you require. Let us know as much detail as possible.

For example if you are dependent on oxygen let us know if you normally keep extra bottles in addition to your oxygen machine. Let us know if you have any type of backup to allow you extra time before you need assistance.

We also need the individuals name, phone numbers and address of each individual that you submit for this registry.

While this Registry does not guarantee assistance, it allows first responders to appropriately plan, prepare for, and respond to the needs of the community.

How Your Information Will Be Used

Information submitted to the LCEMA might be shared with first responders and emergency management officials to plan for, mitigate, respond to and recover from emergencies. Strict confidentiality is maintained at all times. Only those that have a reason to access the information are authorized to do so.

Please take time to submit this information for yourself or any other individual that your aware of.

Thank you,

Michael Woods
Lawrence County EMA Director
