Dr. Curtis D. Edens, 57, a well known gynecologist that practiced in Louisa for more than 21 years, was back in Lawrence Circuit Court last Friday, March, 23rd after his Grand Jury Indictment in May, 2017.
Edens was originally brought down for illegally operating a Soboxone Clinic in Louisa.
The former doctor was arrested in South Carolina at his home and was extradited back to Kentucky to face multiple felonies.
The Court hearing Friday was to hear two motions.
Edens’ Attorney filed A Motion To Withdraw, which was granted.
Motion For Hearing for “a status conference” was a motion from the special prosecutor for the case to proceed to trial.
This isn’t the first time Edens has been in front of Hon. Judge John D. Preston. Edens was involved in a high profile Wrongful Death lawsuit in 2010 which eventually led to a mistrial in an Election Day case after a juror made a remark about defendant spoiling the jury pool.
The former doctor, who has had his license suspended was represented by Hon. David Mussetter, an attorney out of Ashland, KY. on 8 charges.
* (5 counts) of Complicity Theft By Deception-Include Cold Checks $10,000 or more,
* Complicity Present Fraudulent Claims To Defraud KMAP and
* Complicity Dispense/Prescribe/Administer Controlled Substance, 1st offense.
After the motion by the special prosecutor, the defendant will have one more Pre-trial conference in April and if a plea bargain is not reached, the case will swiftly proceed to trial.
