Eagle Ridge Golf League News

Tuesday was another beautiful day for golf at Eagle Ridge…

The league continues making records. We have played throughout April without a rainout. Every golf day has been incredible.

We had an excellent turnout this past Tuesday. However, Laine was not present, having been called out to referee a ballgame. I gave out the scorecards and the flags for all the prize holes. After the completion of the round, all scorecards were turned in. Laine was to receive the cards and do his magic to tell us how everyone did. Unfortunately, he did not get the scores so you can see the results next week.

Since we can’t talk about league achievements, we shall discuss the league’s mascot, turned cheerleader, and now our prodigy golfer. That, of course, is Morgan Kennedy. When Morgan first appeared, she was four, as cute as a button, and as fine a little lady as anyone could find. That was eight years ago.

She, of course, is the daughter of Missy Kennedy, our golf pro for the past eight years, and a few years ago she took on the added responsibility of being Park Superintendent. Morgan comes with her dad and mom and plays Eagle Ridge on occasion. She loves it, and both her parents watch her play with a big grin.

A couple of years ago, I was out taking some pictures of the course when I ran into Missy and Morgan, playing some golf. Their dad was in the cart behind, but he was too shy to have his picture made at the same time. Anyway, the photo is not as flattering as I would like, but now you know why Beverly is the photographer in our family.

Morgan is now in the 6th grade well perhaps better said, she is ready to enter the 7th grade

By the way, Morgan is still as cute as a button, as you can see by the picture.

To tell you how well she plays, her last four rounds before the final tournament of the year, were 44, 46, 47, and 49. In the finals competition, among all the schools, she placed tenth. She will be playing for Boyd County high school next year. I can see a golf scholarship on the horizon. But how can she not be great? Both her dad and her mom are PGA pros. It’s all in the genes.

Now, being the father of several girls, I know how the tastes of adolescent girls change. Morgan may consider remaining a cheerleader, but she will always be a golfer. So in the future, if she decides not to be the league’s cheerleader, she can just come and join the league. She certainly has the game to play.

I urge everybody if you have not enjoyed all the recreational facilities that Yatesville offers, visit; you are truly missing a treat. If you do nothing other than go out and hike, you will see the most exceptional game reserve that you can enter for free. You cannot kill the animals, but you certainly can enjoy their beauty.

And, if you decide to come out some weekend, you may be lucky enough to have the privilege of watching Morgan play golf.

That’s the news from Eagle Ridge Golf league.

See you at the golf course.
