Eagle Ridge Golf League News

Tuesday was a beautiful night, scorching hot, but with sizzling scores.

The members playing in the Tuesday night golf league were tearing the course up. I had the good fortune of playing with Dustin Kingsmore and Tim Hayes. Tim’s father, Tim Hayes Senior, and I played many years together for the hospital softball team. Young Tim can hit the golf ball just like his father pounded the softball, a long, long, way. On number 13, Tim put the ball in the center of the green with a 5 iron from the upper teeing area. I wish I could do that. I never could do that, not even last century. As for Dustin, he flat out played great golf Tuesday. At one time, he was two under par. Other than chipping in for a birdie, his best shot of the night was a 4 hybrid from over 200-yards out onto number 14. His ball landed next to the pin and stopped. He then made the putt for a birdie. This happens after he had hit his drive out of bounds and suffered a penalty stroke.

The remainder of the league players did great, in fact, this was the best scoring night of the year. Four people tied with a net 31 and 2 tied with a gross 33 (3 under par). Of the of the 16 golfers who played on Tuesday night, 13 scored par or better. Another oddity, number 8, a par 3 had no one hit the green.

For the rest of the league news, the 2nd half finals will be played next week. Charlie Curnutte, Troy Hughes, and James Chaffins have a playoff to determine who plays for the championship in the following 2 weeks. Bill England has already qualified as he won the 1st half of the season. After the winner is determined from among the 3, one other player who has accumulated the most points for the year will join in a threesome in an 18 hole playoff. The 2 members of the threesome will be determined next week.
