Eagle Ridge Golf League News
THE BEST THINGS ON TUESDAY EVENING WERE SEEING TWO BEAUTIFUL RAINBOWS AND HAVING ALL PLAYERS FINISH THEIR ROUNDS
Tuesday, August 21, the league golfers were battling both the front 9 of the golf course and the crazy weather. Having looked at the radar, I thought we would not play. Then out came the sun and it was beautiful when I arrived at the course. Despite the weather forecast, we had an excellent turnout of 16 golfers. When we teed off, it was a beautiful sunshiny day. After playing 2 holes, the heavens opened up, and we had a downpour that lasted for about 20 minutes. Fortunately for our group, which consisted of Bill England Jim Puckett and myself, we were playing number 16. We could not have been any closer to the rain shelter. However, we were putting on number 16 green when the downpour occurred. By the time we finished putting and pulled our carts into cover, we were soaked. Another group also had taken refuge, and the same as us, they too were soaked. We passed towels around, and everybody dried off the best they could. The amazing thing was that the rain was pouring yet the sun was trying to shine through. Then to the east, we saw a beautiful rainbow. A few minutes later we commence playing golf again on a bright sunny day.
The most unusual score for the evening was turned in by me, Bill Jackson. I must confess that I had an 11 on hole number 4. This is a record for me and not one that anyone would want to call their personal best. This may be the highest one hole score in the league’s history. There were some good scores too. Dean Stinebring, for example, captured both the low gross with a 37 and the low net with a 33. Mike Hogan and Brad Lafferty each had a net 35. Overall, however, the scores were not as low as usual when playing the back 9. Finally, after we finished our 9 holes, it again started to sprinkle. When we looked again to the east, we saw our second rainbow of the day. One can not keep from smiling when he sees the beauty of God’s creation.
