League Results for April 25, 2017

The Eagle Ridge Golf League course was in excellent condition on Tuesday, April 25, 2017. The temperature was moderate, and it was a fun day for playing. The fairways are now almost entirely green and are the best in the area. The greens look great, but they are still slow.. There was excellent attendance in the league, and there was one particularly low score.

The highlight of the second league play was the round of Troy Hughes. Troy had a gross score of 2 under par 33. This is quite a mark for so early in the season. This is the second week in the row that Troy has shot under par. To top it all off, he also had the low net of 32. Of course Troy is one of our three one handicap players. However, with the first two weeks of the league with under par scores, I am afraid that his +1 handicap will to gone.

Now to tell of the best shot of the day. It was made by ME, and I say that without embarrassment. When you hear what I managed to do after years of practice and with the utmost skill, I believe that the readers will be convinced…

‘…On hole number 4, the bane of my existence, my drive ended on an uphill lie in the rough. Now must players smarter than I would layup to get a decent shot at the fairway that lies about 75’ below the upper fairway where my ball lay. I have been called many things in my life, but intelligent is not one. So I took my trusty 3-wood (should have taken a driver) and took a mighty swing. The ball was hit, high, I mean it went up, up, and away, maybe to the stratosphere, carried the lip of the upper fairway and then disappeared. We couldn’t find the ball, and as no one had seen where it was heading, we were discussing the drop zone. Now I had two straightforward players as my partners, and if I were to pick two people to testify, they would top my list, Charlie Curnutte and the Hon. John Chaffin, the District Court Judge. So Charlie drove down to the lower fairway, and there was my ball. It had hit the downslope just over the top hill, trickled down the hillside through the rough, made its way to the cart path. It then commenced rolling 40’ or so down the cart path and then across the bridge at the bottom of the hill, stopping on the other side of the creek in the rough. Some may call that skill, others may say it was luck, but I call it amazing.’

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it, vouched for by my two credible witnesses.

Now for Tuesday night’s results.
