Dr. Ronald “Ron” Neil Ross, 73, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, passed away early Monday morning at his home.  He was born September 27, 1950, in Huntington, West Virginia.  He was the son of the late Donald Malcolm and Mary Riley Ross.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy “Birddog” Ross.

Ronald was a graduate of Barboursville High School.  He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, where he was assigned to be a medic at Phu Cat Air Base.  He returned home and graduated from Marshall University and West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Ron spent his entire medical career in Louisa, Kentucky, retiring after 39 years of service as a physician.  He started with a private practice in Louisa but soon found his true calling in Emergency Medicine.  He was a member of Holy Family Church in Ashland, Kentucky and had a passion for golf.  He had an extensive group of equally passionate golfing friends, whom he considered his golfing brothers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Barbara Morrison Ross of Flatwoods, his daughter Abigail K. Barnes (Matthew) of Nicholasville, Kentucky, his sons Ronald N. Ross, Jr. (Charlene) of Brooksville, FL, Patrick C. Ross (Angela) of Proctorsville, Vermont, and Ian T. Simpson of Brooklyn, New York, brothers David M. Ross and wife Mary of Barboursville, WV, Phillip “Shorty” Johnson and wife Angie of Barboursville, WV, sister Janet Johnson Smith of Harpers Ferry, WV, grandchildren Christopher, Cynthia, and Connor Ross, and Penelope Barnes.  Additional family members include his mother-in-law June Morrison, brothers-in-law Mike Morrison (Jan), Kent Morrison (Kim), and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ashland with Father D. Andrew Canon Garner, KHS presiding.

A Vigil Service of prayers and remembrances by friends and family will be held at 7:00 pm Friday evening at Holy Family Catholic Church, with doors  opened at 6 pm.

Committal services will be held privately at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County.
