HUNTINGTON, W. VA. — It is very rare that a high school team will play a 1-0 game all year long, but it is almost impossible to play two 1-0 games in back to back days, but that is exactly what Lawrence Co. (17-2) did in the Jack Cook Wood Bat Classic over the weekend at Huntington High school.

Huntington 1 Lawrence Co. 0  (9 innings)

The Highlanders scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the Jack Cook Wood Bat Tournament Saturday afternoon to beat the Bulldogs 1-0.

CJ Fairchild was outstanding in his eight innings of work as he allowed five hits, walked zero and struck out five to get the no decision. Peyton Cyrus was the tough luck losing pitcher.

Bryce Blevins went 2-3, Jackson Feltner was 2-4 including a double, Tyler Maynard, Jarrett Fairchild, Peyton Cyrus and Austin picked up one hit each.

Tyler Maynard was spectacular for five innings Friday night vs Independence out of West Virginia.

Lawrence Co. 1 Independence, W. Va. 0  (Friday night)

SENIOR COMMENTS

“… It was a great game to be apart of glad we could pull it out. Tyler was great on the mound and we just tried to back him up when needed. Good win for us as a team.”

Lawrence Co. Sophomore Tyler Maynard

PLAYER COMMENT

“… All I was trying to do was was throw strikes and trust my defense they have been good all year and I have faith in them. I knew the offense would score even though it was only one run I trust those guys to get the job done. I knew Kade would close it out.”
