LANGLEY, KY. —  Lawrence Co. ( 6-4 ) clinched the #2 seed in Class 3A District 6 and also a home playoff game with a dominating 40-0 road victory over Floyd Central ( 5-4 ) Friday night.

Baden Gillispie flips the ball to the ref after a nice two point conversion run at Floyd Central.

Bulldog Baden Gillispie was a jack of all trades in the victory as he threw a 41 touchdown pass to Danny Hall, had a dandy 68 yard touchdown run and added 2 two point conversion runs for good measure. Gillispie finished with 195 yards on the ground.

Danny Hall outraces two Jaguar defenders to the end zone for a 41 yard touchdown reception from Baden Gillispie.

Ashton Blankenship plowed in from 2 yards out to get the Dawgs on the scoreboard with to go in the first quarter.

After Floyd Central mishandled a punt attempt with 15 seconds to go before halftime it only took West and the Dawgs one play to make it 18-0 on a beautiful 25 yard touchdown run.

In the second half West added to his touchdown total with two more. One from 48 yards out and one from 8 yards. He also completed a nice strike to Eric Webb for 20 yards. West finished with 102 yards on the ground.

Blankenship had 5 carries for 7 yards, Isaiah Rose and Trevor Young 1 yard each.

The Bulldog defense was stifling in the programs first shutout since a 37-0 victory over Powell Co. in 2015.

This group was led by Brandon Davis, Matt May, Tanner Rasnake, Isaiah Rose who had a sack and Hunter Crum who had a nice over the shoulder interception.

Lawrence Co. will get a much deserved off week before returning to action on November 2nd at the friendly confines of Luke Varney, Jr. Memorial Stadium for a showdown with Western Hills out of Frankfort and do- it- all senior running back Wandale Robinson who is being heavily recruited by Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio St. and Alabama.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Our goal tonight was to secure a home playoff game and get a winning record as well. Anytime you don’t have to get in a bus it’s a plus. We seem to play better at home.”

“… The touchdown was something that we have worked on and thought we could get it in this week. Coach Cecil suggested last week against Belfry and we put it in. Eric Webb had a nice reception as well tonight.”

“… Get some rest and heal up during the bye week. We will go light next week and let the kids get their legs back under them and then get ready for a playoff run.”

Lawrence Co. defensive coordinator John Caudill

COORDINATOR’S COMMENTS

“… We are excited with the outcome, we challenged our kids to earn that home playoff game. They came out and responded in a big way. Great effort by our kids they really flew to the football and really nice to see a zero on the scoreboard.

“…We feel like if we can get lined up and get 11 around the football we will have a real shot. We have to limit the big plays and make teams drive the length of the football field. They will eventually mess up or we will get a stop.”
