LC leads at halftime; falls short in second to Louisville Waggener 41-24

Louisville, Ky. — In the first round of the Class 3A playoffs #3 Lawrence Co. ( 5-6 ) made the long trip and gave #2 Louisville Waggener ( 5-6 ) all they wanted before falling 41-24 after holding a 10 point lead in the second quarter Friday night.

The Dawgs scored first on a short touchdown run by Ashton Blankenship and converted the two point play for an 8-0 lead.

Waggener came back and made it 8-7 before Trey Dotson busted loose for a 55 yard touchdown and West completed a pass for the two point conversion to make it 16-7.

After another Wildcat TD to make it 16-14 Freshman Baden Gillispie took a pitch and made a nice cut back for a 9 yard touchdown and another two point conversion that made it 24-14 Bulldogs. Waggener added a TD to close within 24-21 at Halftime.

In the second half it was all Waggener as the Wildcats outscored the Dawgs 20-0 to advance to the second round and set up a date with the 4 time defending Class 3A state champion Belfry Pirates next Friday night at Pond Creek.

Lawrence Co. will lose some talented seniors of of the 2017 team but return a good portion of starters for next year.
