Belfry, Ky — Tyler Maynard exploded for a career high 41 points to lead Lawrence Co. ( 10-6 ) to a 86-79 victory over Magoffin Co. ( 8-6 ) to win the Class 2A Section 8 Championship Friday night at Belfry High School.

The Dawgs will advance to the Class 2A State Tournament next Thursday in Owensboro to face the Winner of Bourbon Co. and Rowan Co.
Tyler Maynard led three Bulldogs in double figures with 41 points, Cody Maynard tallied 18 points, Trenton Adkins 10 points, Alex Ratliff and Baden Gillispie scored 7 each, Chase Sartin scored 2 points and Corbin Fairchild scored 1 point.
The Dawgs connected 8 three pointers and went 12-21 from the charity stripe.
The Hornets hit 6 three pointers and went 13-19 from the free throw line.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“… To say I am proud of this team would be an understatement! The past few games they have played with a win at all costs mentality. We started the game with several missed shots but our kids didn’t let that phase them. They continued to do the things we needed to do to get back into the game and gain/sustain the lead. They were very focused on winning that tournament. We are very pleased to see these guys rewarded for their hard work. However, the season is still early and we have some unfinished business.”
