Louisa, Ky — Lawrence Co. ( 2-3 ) fell behind early and couldn’t overcome #1 Pikeville ( 6-0 ) in a 49-26 loss Friday night at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium.
Pikeville jumped out to 22-0 lead in the first quarter before Blue Fletcher scooted in from 19 yards out to make it 22–6 with 2:33 left in the first quarter.Baden Gillispie scored from 4 yards out to make it 36-12 with 3:56 left in the first half.
Lawrence Co. trailed 43-12 at halftime.
Gillespie scored two touchdowns in the second half one on a nifty 58 yard touchdown run and the other came from 19 yards out.
SJ Lycans was 2-2 on point after touchdown kicks in the second half.
Gillespie finished with 147 yards on 13 attempts and went 3-5 for 48 yards passing.
Fletcher carried 9 times for 48 yards, Trevor Young 13 carries for 34 yards, Brandon Davis 8 attempts for 28 yards, Brandon Fitch 4 for 16 and Dylan Ferguson 1 for 8 yards.
Danny Hall had 2 catches for 47 yards and Davis 1 catch for 1 yard.
Lawrence Co. will return to action in their first District game Thursday night at 7:30 at Home against Magoffin Co. ( 2-3 ).
Pikeville will be off before hosting Phelps ( 3-2 ) Friday October 11th.

“… Tough match up for us, Pikeville is really skilled at so many positions. Turnovers really hurt us once again but I thought our guys battled throughout the game and never quit. Our schedule has really been tough and our record isn’t what we wanted, but the real season begins Thursday against Magoffin Co.”
“… I thought we grew as a team tonight. We had our best week of practice so far so I was pleased with that. Im excited moving forward and to see what our team can become. Hopefully our schedule has prepared us for our District games and playoff games.”
