Lexington, Ky — It was supposed to be a fun trip and a chance to play on the field that hosts the state tournament but it turned sour real quickly for Lawrence Co. ( 27-5 ) who gave up 5 runs in the first inning and fell 5-0 to Rockcastle Co. ( 18-10 ) Saturday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Park.

The game was slated to start at 12:30 and the teams were informed it had to be off the field by 1:30 so the Class A Lexington Legends could take batting practice. The first game of the day between Corbin and Boyle Co. went 9 innings so the two teams were given very little time warm up and the game was scheduled for 5 innings.

The Bulldogs finished with 4 hits, a double by Jackson Feltner and 3 singles from Austin Roe, CJ Fairchild and Bryce Blevins. Feltner took the loss on the mound. Jacob Fletcher was a bright spot going 3 and 2/3 innings allowing zero runs and 2 hits.

Bryce Blevins was once again in top notch form in a win over Montgomery Co. Friday.

The Dawgs will play 4 Home games in three days starting tonight with Senior night at 5:30 weather permitting as they host Knott Co. Central. A doubleheader with Fairland, Ohio and Sheldon Clark at 5:00 and 7:30 before closing out the regular season on Wednesday with a game against Russell at 6:00.

Lawrence Co. will be the #1 seed and host the 58th District Tournament which is slated to begin Saturday evening and the Championship game Monday night.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Travis Feltner

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Great road win vs Montgomery Co. Probably as good of back to back games all year. Raceland and Montgomery on the road. Two really nice ball clubs and we were sharp in both. Blevins was spectacular as he has been all year. Really kept Montgomery’s bats at bay the entire game. He’s got such great command of 3 pitches. Our team plays with a lot of confidence when he’s on the mound.”

“…Took our offense a while to get going but credit their pitcher (Jacobs) he matched Blevins first few innings. Jackson broke thru with a big 2 RBI single and then Bryce drove a big run in as well, followed by successful suicide squeeze from Ethan Whitt”

“… Really proud of our guys, they are a pleasure to coach as much as possible with teenagers we know what we are going to get almost every time out which is a great effort and a competitive edge.”
