Pond Creek, Ky — Defending Class 2A Section champ Lawrence Co.(8-6 ) picked up a 86-73 road victory over Belfry (6-4 ) Saturday night in the first round of this year’s tournament.
Cody Maynard led five Bulldogs in double figures with 23 points hitting 12 out of 14 from the free throw line, Tyler Maynard tallied 20 points, Chase Sartin 16 points, Baden Gillispie and Trenton Adkins 10 points each, Alex Ratliff 7 points.
The Dawgs hit 29-36 from the line and knocked down 7 three pointers.
Belfry hit 5 three pointers and went 14-20 from the line.

Lawrence Co. will play Floyd Central ( 3-8 ) Tuesday at Belfry in the semifinals of the Class 2A Section Tournament.

“… Great win for our team in the first round of the 2A tournament. Belfry has a very solid ball team. I felt like we played some of the best basketball we’ve played this year for 25 minutes Saturday night. Hopefully we can build off of this win and continue to play well.
