David A. Wallen of Louisa, Kentucky passed away at his home on January 5, 2023.

Dave was born on October 9, 1950 to Ervin and Thelma Walters Wallen in Paintsville, Kentucky. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Wallen Sparks; and brothers Edgar Wallen and Douglas Wallen.

Dave was an EMT, a Johnson County deputy sheriff, and in the Army Reserves before he graduated from the Kentucky State Police Academy in 1979. Following retirement from the Kentucky State Police, Dave was a Park Ranger with the Kentucky State Parks. Most recently, he worked as a security officer for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. Through his career in law enforcement, Dave was committed to serving his community.

Dave had a joyful spirit and a caring heart for anyone in need. He was known for his jokes, pranks, and sense of humor. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, but he especially enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He loved spending time with his family and friends, but above all, Dave cared most about his relationship with God. He was an active member of Louisa First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Jane Wallen of Louisa, Kentucky; daughter Emily (Chris) Martin of Louisa, Kentucky; son Seth Wallen of Chicago, Illinois; son Joe Wallen (Miranda) of Louisville, Kentucky; granddaughters Allison and Emme Rose Martin of Louisa, Kentucky; sisters Ann (Ed) Walters and Karen (Ron) Holliday of Tallahassee, Florida; many nieces, nephews, and close friends—all of whom he cared for and loved very much; last but not least, his unforgettable furry companion, Bear.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 9th at Louisa First United Methodist Church, 202 West Main Street. A memorial service will be held at the church on Tuesday, January 10th at 2 p.m. with visitation available at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Louisa First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 763, Louisa, Kentucky 41230.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mr. Wallen and his family.
