Thompson says nationwide warrant was out for Columbus man
Suspect arrested by LPD officer after chase
LOUISA, Ky. — A fugitive considered to be armed and dangerous has been arrested.
The Wayne County Sheriff says there was a nationwide arrest warrant for Lacy Lee Allen Pack, 36, of Columbus, Ohio.
“It seems like his method of operation is to steal vehicles and then break in houses and other cars and use the vehicles,” said Wayne County Sheriff Rick Thompson. “Then when he gets tired of them or moves on, then he gets rid of it then steals another vehicle.”
Thompson says Pack has an extensive criminal record.
According to WCMH, an NBC affiliate out of Columbus, Pack was wanted for allegedly stealing vehicles and using them to commit home burglaries. In one incident in Hocking County, authorities identified Pack as a man caught on surveillance video getting out of a stolen SUV, breaking down a gate and bursting into a home with a stolen handgun.
Early Thursday morning, Thompson says Pack was allegedly breaking into vehicles in a Fort Gay neighborhood.
Deputies were initially called out to a suspicious person complaint. When an officer arrived, he found a vehicle with a broken window, but no suspect.
Then the deputy was called to an abandoned vehicle nearby on Sunnyside Road. When the deputy discovered that vehicle was stolen out of Pike County, Kentucky, he returned to the first scene to see if the two incidents were connected.
While he was there, officers and neighbors heard the sound of a truck starting up.
Thompson says Pack hot-wired the truck and sped away.
“It looked sophisticated to the point that it took tools and stuff to do the things he was doing and he had those tools with him,” Thompson said.
Denae Marcum says it was her father-in-law’s truck that the suspect stole.
She also says Pack knocked on her door earlier.
“I heard a small little knock on my door,” Marcum said. “I waited a few minutes cause I didn’t know who it was at 12:30 at night. I wasn’t about to go in there and they see me.”
Marcum says she then heard Pack pound on her neighbor’s door and saw him attempt to break into her neighbor’s truck.
“Oh, I was a nervous wreck before it all even happened and then when he stole my father-in-law’s truck,” Marcum said. “Then once I found out that he had all the warrants I was like, yeah, it’s a good thing I didn’t open my door or go through there when I first heard it cause it’s hard to tell what he would have done to me and my babies.”
She says she called 911, but the suspect disappeared. That’s until they heard the sound of her father-in-law’s truck. Her father-in-law was asleep at the time. She says the truck is her father-in-law’s prized possession.
Marcum says there were officers still in the area working on the break-in reports and they too saw Pack take off in the truck.
“As the vehicle came past him, he turned on the vehicle and it started fleeing from him erratically, going through parking lots and everything else,” Thompson said.
Deputies chased Pack from Fort Gay to Kentucky. They alerted Louisa Police to be on standby. Louisa PD took over the chase when Pack crossed state lines, quickly pulled him over and arrested him.
“When you have an individual like that that’s got a long record and has been doing this in a lot of different places, I’m proud of my officer who I think did a really good job,” Thompson said.
The truck was photographed and returned to Marcum’s father-in-law with some damage.
Thompson says Pack admitted to stealing several vehicles, including the truck he was driving and the abandoned vehicle from Pike County.
