THE MEETING FOR AMENDMENT 6 WAS OVER EXCESS FUNDS THAT THE COUNTY WASN’T EXPECTING WHEN THE BUDGET WAS SET. IT LASTED ALL OF 20 SECONDS AND WAS PRETTY STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.

Special Fiscal Court Meeting

The Lawrence County Fiscal Court held a Special Meeting on Friday morning June 8  to approve the first reading of Budget Amendment # 6.

This amendment to the County’s budget was due to unexpected overages. Each year, a certain amount of revenue from various sources is expected and the budget is set accordingly. In this case, however, the county has received larger amounts that initially anticipated and, in order to be able to use those funds, the planned use must be approved by the Fiscal Court.

Amendment 6 requests to earmark the excess money into various funds used by the county.

Judge Executive Osborne has requested that the General Fund would be increased by $98,178.74.

Judge Osborne’s office is also seeking to earmark $86,794.70 to the road fund, as road conditions in the county are always a major problem for residents.

With the influx of arrests in recent months, Amendment 6 is also seeking an additional $34,208.21 for the jail fund. The money can’t be used in just any way the judge sees fit. It becomes a part of the regular budget and the judge must seek approval from the Fiscal Court.

The excess money is already in various accounts but Judge Osborne is seeking permission to move it all around for what he sees as most pertinent for Lawrence County and it’s residents.

The amendment, as presented to the Fiscal Court, shows which funds money will be transferred out of.

A motion was made and seconded with unanimous approval.
