CORDLE AND SKAGGS FAMILY DEDICATE BLAINE COMMUNITY SIGN

Autumnfest in the community of Blaine was another success if you went by the number of people who were in attendance this weekend.  There were two particular families that were in attendance this year at the request of the Lawrence County Tourism Commission for a special dedication on Saturday.

The Larry Cordle and Ricky Skaggs families were in town to dedicate the new “Welcome to Blaine” sign that was erected courtesy of the Tourism Commission and with the assistance of Daniel Castle, Bob Wells and other community members.

Larry Cordle and Ricky Skaggs are noted on the sign as Country Music Legends who hail from the small, close-knit community.  While Larry Cordle and his sister Miranda Cordle Napier were able to attend the ceremony, Ricky Skaggs unfortunately could not be there but was graciously represented by his two brothers Garald and Gary, their wives and other family members.

Chris Jobe, Lawrence County Court Clerk and member of the Tourism Commission welcomed the families and the spectators and stated how proud the Commission was not only of the Larry Cordle and Ricky Skaggs but of the entire Blaine community.  Larry Cordle said that “he loved being from Blaine…and I wouldn’t have wanted to be raised no other way.”  Gerald Skaggs said that “I tell people that I have a treasure chest full of memories…. Wouldn’t take nothing for it” and Gary Skaggs continued with “I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now”, a reference an old gospel song.

Larry Cordle was presented with a Kentucky plaque that was made by Bob Wells out of old barn wood from Larry’s fathers barn which his grandfather had built in 1930.  A similar plaque will be presented to Ricky Skaggs in the future.

I’ve lost touch with my cousin Gerald and am really proud to see him here. Would it be possible to forward my number and ask him to give me a call if he would? It would mean the world to me. Contact me for that info if you would be able?
