Community comes out to support Youth Livestock Sale $4,975 in Receipts

The high bidder of the day was Bridgeport Equipment, they paid $650 for senior exhibitor Citori Branham’s market swine. Citori was excited at the sale, she claimed this had been a hard year not knowing and having to push her swine to make weight and she will be using this money to further her education at Murray State University this fall.

County Judge Phil Carter bought Wyatt Branham’s market swine, which he returned to the showman.  Wyatt said, ”I was thankful Phil bought mine. I am going to return her to the breeding stock.”

Patrick Flannery, purchased the Grand Champion Lamb from Citori Branham bringing the most a lamb has brought she stated. “This will help my college fund, since being 6 hours away I won’t get to come home much.”

Bluegrass Livestock Auction purchased, Wyatt Branham’s lamb.  He said,” I am using this money to start my SAE project in Beef Cattle Production for FFA.”  He currently is a freshman at Lawrence County High School.

The remainder of the animals were purchased on scholarship, meaning the buyer doesn’t retain the animal and the exhibitor can show the animals as it grows to maturity or use for breeding purposes.

Amity Vance, a senior at Lawrence County High school and current FFA chapter President, auctioned with her 7 month old calf Norman, who she plans to maintain in her herd.  She earned $600 toward advancement of her diversified livestock farm.

Jackson Droze, who did a little auctioning himself earned $400 toward increasing his livestock herd.  Other auction participants were Abby Holley, Emma Salyer, Sara Brewer, Ally Moore, Abby Moore, and Braely Ward.

Total animals auctioned were 2 sheep, 3 pigs, 3 calves, 4 chickens, and a rabbit.  Buyers included State Representative Patrick Flannery, Bluegrass Stock Yards, County Judge Phil Carter, Lawrence County Farm Bureau, Barker Equipment, Bridgeport Equipment, and Magistrate Mouse Halcomb.  This was a growth in animals available for sell and youth showing livestock.
