2016 Lawrence Co. Homecoming Queen Senior Casey Chaffins escorted by Trace Bowens. Her parents are the late Woody Chaffins and Brandy Broce.

Louisa, Ky. — Greenup Co. ( 3-2 ) scored on the first play of the ball game on an 80 yard touchdown run and never looked back in a 33-12 victory over Lawrence Co. ( 2-3 ) on Homecoming night at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium.

Lawrence Co. Senior #33 Aaron Roberts leading the team onto the field on Homecoming night.

Greenup Co. jumped out to a 12-0 lead less then four minutes into the game on touchdown runs of 80 and 46 yards respectively. The Dawgs answered when Noah West hooked up with Jordan Johnson on an 81 yard touchdown to cut the lead in half but that was the closest Lawrence Co. would get the rest of the night. After the teams exchanged punts  GC scored on a 43 yard TD pass and kicked the extra point to lead 19-6 at halftime.

LC senior #10 Jordan Johnson racing to the end zone after catching a pass from Noah West to get the Dawgs on the scoreboard in the first quarter.

On the first drive of the second half West dropped back to pass, had his arm hit and the pass was intercepted for a touchdown from 40 yards out. GC wasn’t done with the big plays as the 4th quarter started with a 75 yard touchdown run to make the score 33-6. LC fullback Avery Bowman busted through the line and went 74 yards to complete the scoring.

Bowman finished with 141 yards rushing, Noah West was 7-10 for 186 yards all to Jordan Johnson.

Trey Dotson and Malachi Clark had fumble recoveries for the Bulldogs on defense.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Hats off to Greenup Co. They came ready to play and executed their game plan well. Early on I didn’t think our focus was where it needed to be and it showed on both sides of the ball.” They made big play after big play. We made too many mental mistakes tonight, We have to get back to work during the bye week and get ready for Raceland.” We are going to work to get better and stop the silly penalties and mistakes that we keep making. Back to the fundamentals during the bye week and see if we got any young kids that might be ready to play, will be a good evaluation period for our team.”

Due to technical difficulties there are no offficial stats available for the game.
