Eastern Kentucky Organization Gets Attention & Donation From Popular Hollywood Actress

Gwendoline YeoCAP ( Christian Appalachian Project)  is a well known eastern Kentucky organization that is involved in helping many people, the elderly, kids in school and building homes or donating items such as food, clothing, disaster relief and other essentials for people in need.

The organization recently caught the eye of a well known Hollywood actress, Gwendoline Yeo, best known for her role in Desperate Housewives or General Hospital.

Ms. Yeo took notice of the work of CAP after watching a documentary on the region and wanted to help. “It doesn’t matter where the poorest are, if there are poor Americans, I just feel the need to give back because this country has given so much to me,” the Singaporean-born American actress stated in an interview.

On Monday September 19, Yeo spent time in Johnson Co., Ky. with Eunice Stapelton. CAP did a significant amount of work on Stapelton’s home before winter.

According to Yeo, “CAP is very much a silent hero of eastern Kentucky.” In hopes that their work will continue the actress made a donation to the organization. Yeo did not say how much she donated, but CAP officials say she is one of their top donors.

Yeo stopped by a school in Rockcastle County Tuesday. She told LEX 18 that she learned about poverty in Appalachia a few years ago in the documentary, and it hit home for her.

She came to America at the age of 11 and she said that she had to struggle.

“I just kind of know what it’s like to have some struggle but I feel like your biggest struggle can be your biggest asset,” said Yeo.

Several counties that CAP covers rank in the top 100 poorest counties in the country.
