West scores 3 TD’s in 34-27 win

Lawrence Co. QB 5 Noah West had three touchdowns on the ground in a victory over Prestonsburg. 60 Bradley Osborne 55 Eric Price and 75 Brayden Robertson paved the way for the Bulldog offense all night.

Louisa, Ky. —  Lawrence Co. ( 4-6 ) trailed almost the entire game before the defense took over in a 34-27 comeback victory against visiting Prestonsburg ( 6-4 ) on Senior night at Luke Varney Jr Memorial stadium Friday night.

Prestonsburg took the opening drive and punched it in the end zone to take a 7-0 lead. The Dawgs bounced right back when QB Noah West went down the sideline for a 41 yard touchdown run to make it 7-6. The Blackcats once again pushed the lead out to 14-6 on a 25 yard TD pass to end the 1st quarter. LC got within 14-12 after Senior Jordan Johnson raced to the end zone from 13 yards out to start the 2nd quarter. P-Burg pushed the lead to 21-12 before the Bulldogs started their comeback.

West once again found pay dirt on a 13 yard TD to cut the lead to 21-18

As time expired in the 3rd quarter Bulldog freshman Trevor Young rumbled in from 12 yards out to give LC their first lead of the game at 26-21 to start the 4th period.

With the Blackcats driving the Dawgs defense came up huge when Hunter Crum intercepted a pass and ran it back into Prestonsburg territory to stop a drive. West cashed that turnover in from 1 yard out and added the conversion run to put Lawrence Co. up 34-21 with under three minutes left. The Blackcats score on a 12 yard run to set the final score of 34-27. LC freshman Brandon Fitch recovered the onside kick to seal the victory.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENT

“… Our defense really stepped up in the second half, Coach Caudill made some really good adjustments at halftime and that slowed them down. That was a major key to the outcome.” Our goal was to get a little bit better each week and I know sometimes in the middle of the season it didn’t look like it.” We played a really tough schedule this year.” Really proud of the progress that we have made to this point. Very pleased with our team and glad for the seniors to go out like this at Home.”

Lawrence Co. Senior Jordan Johnson

“… Really happy to get the win on Senior night.” Our defense was really good in the second half. Coaches made adjustments in the second half and it showed on the scoreboard.” It’s playoff time now win or go home.”
