LOUISA, KY. —  Lawrence Co. improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in Class 3A District 6 play with an impressive 38-7 victory over Pike Co. Central ( 2-5 ) Friday night at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium.

Lawrence Co. Youngster Earl Wellman gives Bulldog Star Baden Gillispie a much need drink after his big night.

After about an hour delay for lightning it didn’t take the Dawgs long to put the game out of reach with Sophomore Baden Gillispie exploding for three touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 17, 25 and 59 respectively. The Bulldogs led 22-0 after one period. Ashton Blankenship and Noah West tacked on two point conversion runs as well.

In the second quarter it was Blankenship’s time to shine with two touchdowns of his own one from 3 yards out and the second one from 48 yards out that made a running clock come into effect with just over 3 minutes to go before half. Andrew Tackett and Blankenship tacked on conversion runs to set the score of 38-0 at half.

Pike Co. Central finally found the end zone with 1:52 to go in the third on a Isaiah Hess 8 yard run and Cameron McCombs kicked the PAT to make it 38-7.

The LCHS defense was outstanding along with the offensive line.

Gillispie finished with 125 yards all in the first half, Blankenship 99 and West 96 respectively, Trevor Young 42 and Brandon Fitch 2 yards.

The Dawgs never attempted a pass.

Lawrence Co. will host long time nemesis Belfry ( 6-1 ) for Senior night next Friday.

Pike Co. Central will host Sheldon Clark.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENTS

“…Best week of practice that we have had all year and it showed tonight. We added a little wrinkle to the offense and I want to give Coach Caudill the credit he has been wanting to put it in since week 0 and this week was the perfect time to do it.”

“… Our kids showed poise once again with another delay to start the game and came out and executed the game plan. The offensive line was really good.”

“… Belfry is the standard for Class 3A not only around here but for the whole state of Kentucky. Senior night is always special at Lawrence Co. hopefully we can have another good week of practice.”
