Louisa, Ky — For the second time in less than a week a Bulldog baseball star has made his college choice as senior to be CJ Fairchild has verbally committed to the University of Pikeville.

Fairchild fires a strike against Paintsville.

Fairchild hit 9 home runs last season and was also very good on the mound for Lawrence Co. who won a school record 35 games and captured the 15th Region crown before falling to Rowan Co. in the State Tournament.

UPike is under the direction of former Boyd Co. Star Casey Hamilton who takes over a program that went 24-27 last year including 10-11 in the Mid-South Conference.

PLAYER’S COMMENTS

“… The main reason I picked UPike is because it’s a beautiful campus and close to home. When I went on a visit I loved the coaches they made me feel welcome and I can’t wait to be a part of their family ‘Go Bears’.”

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Travis Feltner

COACH’S COMMENT

“… Again, just really excited about CJ and his opportunity that’s before him. Very thankful to Coach Hamilton and Upike. I firmly believe in sports and the molding it can do on these young student athletes. And it’s a huge honor when our young men get that chance to further their playing career beyond high school.”

“… CJ is a very talented young man and he’s been a huge part of our success and program. These guys have all grown up with my own son so I’ve been around them since day one and personally it means a lot to me and my family.”
