Bernard Marcum

1942 — 2018

 

Bernard Marcum, 75 of Louisa, KY, passed into the presence of Jesus as well as his late wife Tuesday night April 24, 2018 at Harbor Health Care in Ironton, OH with his son at his side.

Bernard was born December 5, 1942 in Martin County, KY. He was the son of the late Earl and Larna Short Marcum. He was a 1964 Inez High School graduate and an army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving from 1965-1967.

He worked most of his career as a heavy equipment operator with his last job serving with Addington Brothers’ Coal Company.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of New Friendship United Baptist Church in Martin County, KY. He and wife Judith accepted the Lord as Savior in May 1974.

In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Judith Ann Marcum who passed of the same illness on April 30, 2011. He was also predeceased by sisters Bernice Maynard (2015) and Lillian Endicott (2005), brother Joseph E. Marcum (2014), and brother-in-law Charles Cantrell (1997).

Survivors include his only child, Curtis A. (Kristi) Marcum, and his 3 precious granddaughters Holly Carolyn, Heidi Jayann, and Hope Lexie Marcum, all of Catlettsburg, KY; sister Carol (Bob) Maynard of Columbus, OH; brother Wade (Debbie) Marcum of Louisa, KY; sister Gale Marcum-Dixon of Titusville, FL; brother-in-law Paul Endicott of Louisa, KY; sister-in-law Darlene Marcum of Louisa, KY; sister-in-law Evalena Cantrell of Louisa, KY. In addition he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dogs Ben, Annie, and Haley.

Bernard enjoyed a simple farm life. He loved to tinker on farm and automotive machinery. He also enjoyed raising chickens, caring for his Blue Heeler dogs, and raising a garden every year. He also helped care for his granddaughters and frequented McDonald’s for them.

Funeral services will be held on Monday April 30th (on the 7 year anniversary of his wife’s passing) at 2:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Pack officiating. Burial will follow at the Yatesville Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 5pm until 9pm at the Wilson Funeral Home.
