LOCAL KENTUCKY STATE POLICE SERGEANT DIES UNEXPECTEDLY IN WEST VIRGINIA HOSPITAL AFTER ‘BRIEF ILLNESS’

THE PASSING OF THE TROOPER, A BOYD COUNTY NATIVE, WHO WAS JUST 42 YEARS OLD

The Kentucky State Police are in mourning after a local state police trooper passed away suddenly after a brief illness.KSP Sergeant Christoper Thomas Carter, 42, of Catlettsburg, KY. (Boyd County), died at a Charleston, West Virginia, hospital on Sunday, November 10, according to his obituary, after he died “following a brief illness,” his obituary states.

Chris Carter was a 19-year veteran of Kentucky State Police and was assigned to the KSP Post 14 in Ashland, KY.

The Kentucky State Police headquarters in Frankfort issued the following press release statement on the passing of trooper Chris Carter

“His departure has left a profound void within our ranks and communities,” KSP said in a press release. “Sergeant Carter’s career with the Kentucky State Police was defined by integrity, unwavering dedication, and a steadfast commitment to protecting the people of Kentucky. Over nearly two decades, he served with distinction and compassion, embodying the values that define our agency: honor, courage, and commitment. His legacy is woven into the fabric of our department, as well as the lives of those he touched.”

“With heavy hearts, the Kentucky State Police announces the passing of Sergeant Chris Carter, a cherished member of our organization and dedicated public servant. Sergeant Carter, a 19-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police, passed away following a medical condition. His departure has left a profound void within our ranks and communities. 

Sergeant Carter’s career with the Kentucky State Police was defined by integrity, unwavering dedication, and a steadfast commitment to protecting the people of Kentucky. Over nearly two decades, he served with distinction and compassion, embodying the values that define our agency: honor, courage, and commitment. His legacy is woven into the fabric of our department, as well as the lives of those he touched. 

Sergeant Carter’s contributions to our agency went far beyond his duties. He was a mentor to many, an advocate for his fellow Troopers, and a trusted partner in every sense. Those who knew him admired his work ethic, his compassion, and his commitment to doing what was right. 

The Kentucky State Police honors his memory and extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. The impact of Sergeant Carter’s life and career will be felt for years to come, and he will be remembered with respect and gratitude for his years of service”.

Trooper Carter’s reads as the following:

Chris Carter 42 of Catlettsburg, Kentucky passed away on November 10. 2024 at CMAC Charleston, West Virginia following a brief illness.

Chris was born September 3, 1982 at Ashland, Kentucky the son of Ruby Cartmel Carter and the late Arnold Carter.

He was a Sergeant with the Kentucky State Police Ashland Post. 

Survivors include his loving wife Brittney Carter; his mother Ruby and Les Carter; two sisters Jessica Menshouse and husband Jeremy, and Renee Huff and husband Dan; nieces and nephews  Lily Menshouse, Sophie Menshouse and Jonah Menshouse.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 13th at 1:00 pm at the Louisa Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Yatesville Memorial Gardens Louisa, Kentucky.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday November 13th from 11:00am until time of services at the Louisa Freewill Baptist Church.

Care for Chris and his family has been entrusted to our family at Wilson Funeral Home.
