The Louisa Police Department and the Louisa Bike Club held their Annual Youth Summer Safety Fest on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Louisa Senior Citizens Center.

Louisa Police Chief Greg Fugitt said 100 kids got a new bike helmet as a result to the fun activity sponsored by his department.

The event focuses on child bike safety. Participants were encouraged to bring their bicycle, tricycle or big wheels for the safety course. Free bike helmets were given out to those who came for the fun.

Louisa Police Chief Greg Fugitt said, “We have been doing this for 3 years now to support and provide community service to the kids and families we serve. We have a good turnout today and hope to provide helmets to about 100 kids. We enjoy the opportunity to show the community that we do more than police.”

Volunteer Melissa Moore, branch manager of World Finance stated, “We are thrilled to come out and support the Louisa Police Department and the kids. The company is glad to give back to the community.”

Smokey the Bear from the Kentucky Division of Forestry was also there to discuss campfire safety. Since it is the season for camping, a refresher course was given about how to keep your camping fun and safe.

The Kentucky State Police represented by Michael Murriell brought a truck to demonstrate the effect of not wearing seatbelts in a roll-over. Several volunteers were present to assist the children.

A Big Shout Out to the following for sponsoring the event. Walmart, World Finance, Liquidation Addicts, Rent to Own, Do It Best Hardware, Food City, Cash Express, Auto Zone, Advanced Auto and Brown’s Food Service.
