We found this clip from WAVE TV in Louisville that we think explains voting on Amendment 1, the least publicized item on the ballot. This vote is whether you feel the reins be tightened on exactly who can vote in Kentucky. The amendment, if passed, would require a person to be a U.S. Citizen in order to vote in Kentucky elections which is already forbidden in Ky. law. This would tighten the qualification one more step.

We vote YES.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Amendment 1 is pretty straightforward in what in Kentucky’s constitution it looks to change, in that it essentially would change nothing about voting laws in the Commonwealth.

If approved, Kentucky’s Amendment 1 would add one line to the constitutional provision for voting rights explicitly stating that, “No person who is not a citizen of the United States shall be allowed to vote in this state.”

It is precise language, but to both sides of the political aisle, it sends two different messages.

“The poor voters are facing two amendments, and you have two sides claiming about what those amendments would do, but when you read the language you’re not going to see it doing very much at all,” said Dr. Stephen Voss, associate professor of political science of the University of Kentucky.
