Louisa, Ky. (January 17, 2023)— In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy, Addiction Recovery Care is proud to announce its inaugural MLK Day Week of Service. During this week, ARC employees will take “a day on, not a day off” and volunteer in their communities.

From volunteering at a local food ministry, cleaning up a neighborhood, to donating gently-used clothing items or non-perishable foods, ARC employees will have the opportunity to carry out the organization’s mission and values in their hometowns.

“Beyond the important work we do to help others find hope and healing after addiction, there are so many wonderful opportunities for us to serve our communities,” said Tim Robinson, Founder and CEO of ARC. “Dr. King once said that ‘everybody can be great, because everybody can serve,’ and we’re excited to take an active role in helping our neighbors through compassionate and servant-hearted service.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated by Congress as a National Day of Service. Because ARC is a large organization, the company is expanding the day of service into a week-long initiative.

“ARC’s MLK Day Week of Service is a great way to publicly display our diversity and inclusion efforts,” said Herbert Smith, Vice President of Human Resources at ARC. “When our organization steps up together, we can create meaningful change, serve our underprivileged neighbors and ultimately make our communities more equitable.”

To continue working toward Dr. King’s dream, ARC staff also participated in a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial march and celebration in Ashland that was organized by the Boyd and Greenup Counties’ NAACP.

ARC is supporting the following organizations during this year’s Week of Service:

  • Community Action Center – Springfield, KY
  • Habitat for Humanity – Lexington, KY
  • Paws 4 the Cause – Lexington, KY
  • Sisters Road to Freedom – Lexington, KY
  • God’s Pantry Food Bank – Lexington, KY
  • Lebanon Police Department – Lebanon, KY
  • Community Service Center – Lebanon, KY
  • Central Community Action – Lebanon, KY
  • UMC Manna Meal Ministry – Nicholasville, KY
  • Lakefront Church Food Pantry – Salyersville, KY
  • Christian Appalachian Project – Paintsville, KY
